Innovative solutions for non-load bearing masonry infills


Objective: This research aims to, for earthquake action, assess the state of the envelope in built heritage, learn to design infills for new buildings and consider possible solutions for strengthening / rehabilitation.

The importance of the project stems form:

(a) high cost of correction of deficiencies commonly found,

(b) the accountability of the structural designer for damage in masonry infills in case of seismic action,

(c) need for appropriate requirements for walls in zones of medium and high seismicity.

Note the innovation in considering testing on the shaking table with actions in two directions, which introduce simultaneously effects in plane and out of plane.
